does anyone know some good potty training tips/rewards for toddlers?

my son is 18 and a half months old….he seems ready. he grabs his area and if i say go potty he goes to the bathroom and Flushes.
SO i would like to know some good potty training tips and some rewards.
this is my first child so not sure how to go about this.
any tips will help
and reward please..im not sure what to get him

thanks so much

*Rewards can be anything you want them to be that gets your child very excited. Some its stickers, some its a sweet treat (though many will say don’t do this, this worked for my son on tough days) or a simple high five and praise (also works!)
*I suggest starting on the big potty (as they will need to use this eventually) UNLESS he shows fear of the big potty. Then I suggest getting a very simple potty chair.
*Have the potty in an area that is easily accessed. Sometimes this is in a play area or downstairs bathroom or hallway.
*Start by taking him at least every hour. Some children may need every thirty minutes. After a while, just reminding him will send him running to the potty!
*Find some fun books to read and even have his babies/stuffed animals use the potty. Treating them as you would him. Hugs, kisses, etc….
*If he is frustrated, forget about it that day and try again later.
*Start with sitting down with both pee and poo to avoid confusion. My son is three and now stands up to pee.
*Only start with potty training during the day. After that is accomplished work on nap time. Once they are able to hold in their pee/poo for a couple hours then this is the time to work on this. Then bedtime. Night time can be the hardest as they are asleep for long hours.
*Try to avoid getting mad when accidents happen. Have him help clean up also
*Ditch diapers during the training process (could take a few days to weeks to even months..don’t get discouraged!). He can run around naked or wear big boy underwear. I suggest white underwear that can be bleached, later letting him pick out some once he doing good.
*Plastic underwear that go over the cotton underwear work for quick trips out to avoid moisture getting on seats. Keep extra clothes and plastic bag with you
*Other wise, let him do this at his own pace and both of you will be happy!

I’ve heard that people have had good success with stickers. It sounds simple I know, but every time he goes potty you can let him put a sticker on a "potty chart" (I’ve seen them in stores and online). Every kid I’ve ever known loves stickers, and it’s better than using candy or toys, in my opinion.

It’s still a little early for a boy, usually around 2 but hey if he seems ready, go for it! Buy some pull ups and a potty chair (the kind that sits in the floor that only he uses)…You’re going to have to start taking him to the bathroom every hour during the day just to get him in a routine….Explain to him that the pull ups are big boy underwear ect. You can try a sticker chart, that’s what i’m doing with my 2yr old daughter…Every time she uses the potty she gets to put a cool sticker like Dora on it and if she gets 10 a week she gets an icey or hot chocolate from the store on Friday…I only do 10 stickers because she’s at daycare all day and uses the potty perfectly fine there…The potty chart also can be used as a learning tool, like counting the stickers or using stickers with colors….

I never did rewards. It’s unnecessary becuase the child will preform for only the reward and not becuase it’s what they are suppose d to do.

If you think he’s ready get some underwear (you can get stuff that has lined on teh outside so clothes aren’t getting wet). Diapers and pull ups don’t have the wet ick factor on the skin.

If you can keep him without pants for a few weeks, when he says potty, grab him and stick him on a potty (little or big doesn’t matter) so he can go there. Most children aren’t aware at 18 months, so don’t be surprised if it doesn’t really stick for another 6-12 months.

i think you should make up a song just for him when he pottys … candy rot teeth and at 18 months they can pill the stickers off and eat them

and potty training at this age is great try and do most of the work before 2 because that’s when they start to rebel against anything you want them to do, and a few years ago this would have been a normal age to have your child potty trained or at least almost but we have gotten lazy and the disposable diaper industrie controls the parents minds into thinking it has to be done later when we all should no it doesn’t

good luck im about to start with my son as well : )
