I have a eight month old snorkie puppy (cross breed between a mini schnauzer and yorkie) and it seems like her behavior has taken a complete turn from the time I brought her home. She’s not in heat yet and the vet says she’s perfectly fine, and doesn’t have hyperactivity..although I find that doubtful.lol
She is constantly play biting, and gets VERY aggressive if I leave the room or show attention to another dog even for a second. I left her out of her kennel for maybe ten mins while I did some work outside. I returned to find the linoleum floor ripped and shredded, her bed strolled and stuffing everywhere! She has all kinds of chew toys in there, so I know it wasn’t for lack of something to do…it seems more like a hissy fit a child would throw.
And if someone comes to the door, she goes crazy jumping all over them and nipping at them. She’s ten pounds, so isn’t a big issue for most, but my 5 year old cousin is almost knocked over by her.
The list goes on but we finally reached an understanding as far as getting house trained and simple things such as sit, but when the other factors I listed above take place, it’s no use getting her to calm down.
As far as her having too much energy, I take her for at least half a mile walks down our road every day and let her play outside after every meal if weather allows, but always on a leash because she will not stay when I call her.
I’m sorry this turned out so long.lol And bless you guys for sticking it through, but any help will be greatly appreciated.
Obedience training and more exercise.
Get enrolled in an obedience class that will teach you to teach her. Those are pretty typical bratty puppy antics.
Sounds like she could also use some more structure. Check out http://www.fotodanes.com/k9military.htm
You might look into finding some same size/age playmates for her to wear off the excess energy. Doesn’t sound like the current amount is cutting it.
I’d also recommend putting her on leash when people come over. It will give you more control over her.
